Abstract

Premature labor is a serious problem in pregnant women that can cause the risk of death in infants. Administration of tocolytics can be an effort to increase the likelihood of a baby being born alive. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of nifedipine as a tocolytic in delaying preterm delivery in the obstetrics and pediatric inpatient unit of Dr. M. Djamil Padang General Hospital from January to March 2024. The research method is non-experimental with a descriptive research design. Data collection was carried out prospectively using a cross-sectional method. The research data source used was the medical records of patients treated from January to March 2024 who met the inclusion criteria, where there were 27 samples analyzed. The results showed that nifedipine was 100% effective as a tocolytic. A total of 13 patients were able to delay their labor, while 14 patients after administration of nifedipine immediately underwent pulmonary delivery with dexamethasone administration. The conclusion show that nifedipine as a tocolytic was effective in ending contractions in pregnant women at risk of preterm labor.
