Abstract

This study aims to explore how community-based service learning strategies through leadership projects can build the leadership skills of prospective Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJOK) teachers in PPG Pre-service students of the University of Jambi. This study uses a qualitative approach by involving four PPG students as the main informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation of project activities at Islamic boarding schools. The analysis was carried out with the help of NVivo software to identify emerging themes and meanings of leadership experiences. The results of the study show that community-based leadership projects are able to foster students' communication skills, teamwork, responsibility, and social concern. Students learn to build cross-field coordination, collaborate with teachers and the community, and adapt to field challenges such as limited facilities and weather conditions. Through traditional sports activities, they also foster the values of togetherness, local culture, and physical health of Islamic boarding school children. In conclusion, community-based service learning has proven to be effective in developing reflective, empathetic, and collaborative leadership in PJOK Pre-service PPG students, while strengthening the relationship between education and community-based social service.
