Abstract

Kebon IX Village is one of the main vegetable production centers in Sungai Gelam Subdistrict, Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. Pest attacks are among the primary challenges in vegetable cultivation in Kebon IX Village. Most farmers still rely heavily on synthetic insecticides for pest control. However, the continuous and unwise use of synthetic insecticides can lead to several negative impacts, including pest resistance, pest resurgence, and the death of natural enemies that serve as biological control agents. To address these issues, it is necessary to implement safe and environmentally friendly pest management practices, such as utilizing household organic waste from vegetable and fruit scraps mixed with water and sugar. The fermentation of this mixture produces a solution that can be used as both organic fertilizer and eco-friendly insecticide. This activity aims to conduct outreach and demonstrations on how to produce eco-enzyme solutions from vegetable and fruit waste, with the hope that farmers in Kebon IX Village can manage their household organic waste independently and turn it into a valuable resource for their soil and vegetable crops. Eco-enzymes can be utilized as organic fertilizers and insecticides to control pests in vegetable cultivation, resulting in healthier and safer produce that is also environmentally sustainable.
