ANTISEPTIC SOAP INNOVATION WITH ACTIVE INGREDIENTS OF ESSENTIAL OIL FROM CINNAMON LEAF WASTE (CINNAMOMUM BURMANNII)

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an innovative solid antiseptic soap using essential oil from cinnamon leaves (Cinnamomum burmannii) as an antibacterial agent, utilizing cinnamon leaf waste. The essential oil was obtained by steam distillation and evaluated based on SNI parameters. The soap was formulated into four variations (F0–F3) with essential oil concentrations of 0–4%. Evaluations included physical tests, pH, moisture content, foam height, hedonic tests, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Results showed that the essential oil met most SNI standards and contained cinnamaldehyde and eugenol as active antibacterial compounds. Formula F2 (3.5%) exhibited the highest inhibition zone (22.21 mm, categorized as very strong) and was most preferred by panelists. In conclusion, the solid antiseptic soap containing cinnamon leaf essential oil is effective as a natural antibacterial agent and has potential for development as a safe and consumer-preferred antiseptic product.
