About the Journal

The choice of the title Journal of Geology Mengkarang is based on philosophical, scientific, and institutional factors that embody the essence of geological scholarship and highlight the regional uniqueness and academic profile of Universitas Jambi. The term Mengkarang originates from the Mengkarang Formation, which is intricately linked to the geological features of Jambi Province and Sumatra in general—areas celebrated for their diverse geological events, including sedimentary stratigraphy, tectonics, geomorphology, mineral and energy resources, as well as geological heritage (geoheritage). This also includes the UNESCO Global Geopark Merangin Jambi, which holds scientific relevance at both national and international scales. Thus, the journal’s title signifies its dedication to advancing regional geological research that is pertinent not only locally but also on national and global platforms.
