Trends and Issues in the Use of Garlic as A Natural Treatment for Lowering Blood Pressure in Hypertension Sufferers: Literature Review

Pendahuluan: Hipertensi, atau tekanan darah tinggi, merupakan masalah kesehatan global yang prevalensinya terus meningkat dari tahun ke tahun. Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) melaporkan bahwa hipertensi merupakan salah satu penyebab utama kematian akibat penyakit kardiovaskular di seluruh dunia. Menurut data WHO, sekitar 1,28 miliar orang dewasa berusia 30–79 tahun menderita hipertensi di seluruh dunia. Salah satu bahan alami yang menarik perhatian dalam pengobatan hipertensi adalah bawang putih (Allium sativum). Oleh karena itu, makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji efektivitas bawang putih sebagai obat penurun tekanan darah pada pasien hipertensi dan mekanisme kerjanya.
Metode: Tinjauan komprehensif terhadap studi-studi relevan telah dilakukan, menganalisis temuan-temuan terkait manajemen hipertensi, hambatan-hambatan dalam pengobatan, serta peran tenaga kesehatan profesional dan terapi komplementer dalam meningkatkan kepatuhan pasien. Studi ini menggunakan mesin pencari dan basis data.
Hasil: Temuan-temuan penelitian yang dianalisis secara konsisten menunjukkan bahwa bawang putih memiliki potensi yang signifikan dalam menurunkan tekanan darah pada individu dengan hipertensi. Kesimpulan: Bawang putih (Allium sativum) terbukti sangat efektif dalam menurunkan tekanan darah pada penderita hipertensi dalam berbagai sediaan seperti ekstrak, rebusan, dan infus, terutama melalui aksi allicin sebagai agen vasodilator, antioksidan, dan antiinflamasi.
