Abstract

This research aims to identify an increase in students' conceptual understanding through the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model in class II SDN 15/IV Jambi City. This research uses a Classroom Action Research (PTK) design with the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the research show an increase in students' understanding of concepts in Mathematics subjects. In the initial condition, the average student score was 56.2%. After implementing cycle I, the average score increased to 68.04%. After improvements in cycle II, the average value increased again to 80.28%. Before the research was conducted, only 7 students (28%) achieved grades according to the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). In cycle I, this number increased to 12 students (48%), and in cycle II it increased to 19 students (76%). Based on the research results, the application of the Problem Based Learning model with the help of animated videos was proven to be able to increase understanding of Mathematics concepts in class II students at SDN 15/IV Jambi City. This model can be used as an effective alternative for learning Mathematics. Therefore, educators are advised to apply the PBL model to increase students' understanding of concepts in mathematics learning.
