Conflict of Interest Policy

ESSI (Electrical, Signals, and Systemic Intelligence) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. This policy outlines the definitions and processes for handling conflicts of interest for authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers, whether identified before or after publication. The journal strictly follows the Core Practices outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Definition of Conflicts of Interest A conflict of interest arises when an individual or entity has financial, personal, professional, or academic relationships that could influence or be perceived to influence their objectivity, integrity, or decision-making in the research, review, or editorial processes.

Identification of Conflicts of Interest All parties involved in the publication process must disclose potential conflicts, including:

  • Financial Interests: Funding sources, stock ownership, employment, or consultancies.

  • Personal Relationships: Close personal or family ties with individuals involved in the process.

  • Academic Relationships: Recent collaborations or affiliations that may cause bias.

  • Competing Affiliations: Ties to organizations with conflicting interests in the research outcome.

  • Intellectual Property: Patents or copyrights that could be affected by the publication.

Handling Conflicts of Interest ESSI manages conflicts of interest with the utmost diligence:

  • For Authors: Must disclose all potential conflicts during submission. If identified after publication, authors must notify the editorial board immediately for transparent rectification.

  • For Reviewers: Must decline invitations if a conflict exists. If a conflict is discovered during review, the reviewer must notify the board to recuse themselves.

  • For Editors and Staff: Editors must recuse themselves from handling any submissions where they have a conflict. To maintain integrity, ESSI strictly limits/prevents editors and stakeholders from accessing the internal publication process if they are co-authors of a submitted manuscript.

  • For Publishers: Universitas Jambi ensures that editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit and are not influenced by financial or organizational interests.

Transparency and Disclosure Disclosures made by authors and reviewers will be published alongside the respective articles to ensure full transparency. ESSI periodically reviews this policy to ensure alignment with global best practices.
