Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
ESSI (Electrical, Signals, and Systemic Intelligence) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics, strictly following the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices. All parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—must adhere to these ethical principles to ensure the integrity of scholarly publishing.
Editorial Responsibilities
-
Publication Decisions: The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the editorial board, is responsible for deciding which submitted articles will be published. The decision is based on the manuscript's significance, originality, clarity, and alignment with the journal’s scope. The editors ensure all submissions undergo rigorous double-blind peer review.
-
Fair Play: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their academic merit, without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political affiliation.
-
Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and editorial advisors.
-
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Editors must not use unpublished materials from submitted manuscripts for their own research. Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
-
Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists editors in making decisions and helps authors improve their manuscripts. Reviewers must provide objective, constructive, and timely feedback.
-
Confidentiality: All manuscripts received for review are confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without prior authorization.
-
Objectivity Standards: Reviews should be objective. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should clearly express their views with supporting arguments.
-
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest and decline the invitation to evaluate manuscripts where a conflict exists.
Responsibilities of Authors
-
Authorship and Contributorship: ESSI follows COPE's guidelines. All listed authors must have substantially contributed to the research. Guest, ghost, or honorary authorship is strictly prohibited.
-
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure their work is entirely original. ESSI utilizes similarity-checking software (e.g., Turnitin) for plagiarism screening. Any form of plagiarism is strictly unacceptable.
-
Multiple or Concurrent Publication: Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously constitutes unethical publishing behavior.
-
Data Sharing and Reproducibility: Authors should provide sufficient details to allow replication. Where applicable, depositing data in public repositories is highly encouraged.
-
Ethical Oversight (Crucial for Biomedical Research): For studies involving human or animal subjects, authors must provide evidence of Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval or ethical clearance, confirming compliance with international ethical standards such as the Declaration of Helsinki.
-
Fundamental Errors: If authors discover significant errors in their published work, they must promptly notify the editorial board to issue a correction or retraction.
Publisher’s Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineering Study Program, Universitas Jambi, as the publisher of ESSI, ensures that:
-
The journal strictly follows ethical publishing standards.
-
Misconduct allegations are investigated following COPE’s retraction and correction guidelines.
-
Content remains accessible through long-term digital preservation.
Handling of Ethical Misconduct & Post-Publication
-
Misconduct: ESSI follows COPE’s procedures in handling allegations of misconduct, including the investigation of complaints and the potential retraction or withdrawal of articles.
-
Post-Publication Discussion: ESSI provides mechanisms for post-publication discussions, including errata for minor errors and retractions for severe ethical violations.
Compliance: ESSI adheres to ethical guidelines established by COPE and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) Best Practices.
