Peer Review Process
Publication of articles in ESSI (Electrical, Signals, and Systemic Intelligence) is dependent solely on scientific validity, technical rigor, and coherence, as judged by our editors and independent peer reviewers. We assess whether the methodology is sound, the writing is comprehensible, and the work represents a significant contribution to the fields of electrical engineering, signals, and systemic intelligence. ESSI highly acknowledges the critical effort and constructive suggestions provided by its reviewers.
1. Initial Evaluation of Manuscripts
The Editor-in-Chief will first evaluate all submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts will be rejected at this stage if they are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, or fall outside the aims and scope of ESSI.
During this initial stage, the editorial team also conducts a strict similarity check using Turnitin/iThenticate to prevent plagiarism. Manuscripts must have a maximum similarity index of 20%. Those that meet the minimum criteria and pass the similarity check are passed on to subject-matter experts for review.
2. Double-Blind Peer Review
The review process at ESSI is conducted using a strict double-blind peer review system. This means the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers, and the reviewers do not know the identity of the authors.
Submitted manuscripts are generally sent to two to three independent experts. Reviewers are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript is scientifically sound, whether it duplicates already published works, and whether it is sufficiently clear for publication.
3. Review Reports and Criteria
Reviewers are asked to evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:
-
Originality: Does the paper clearly state the objectives and the research gap?
-
Methodology: Is the research methodologically sound and technically rigorous?
-
Results and Conclusions: Are the findings clearly presented, properly analyzed, and do they strongly support the conclusions?
-
References: Does the manuscript correctly and adequately cite relevant, recent previous works?
Note: Reviewers are not expected to correct or copyedit manuscripts. Language correction is the responsibility of the authors and is not part of the peer review process.
4. Final Decision
Based on the reviewers' evaluations, they will advise the editor on a submission recommendation using the following OJS standard options:
-
Accept Submission: The manuscript is accepted as is.
-
Revisions Required (Minor Revision): The manuscript requires minor changes. Once the revised paper is uploaded by the author, the further review is only carried out by the Editor to ensure the revisions were made.
-
Resubmit for Review (Major Revision): The manuscript requires significant changes. The next round of review will be carried out by the previous reviewers to assess the major revisions.
-
Decline Submission: The manuscript is rejected due to lack of quality, originality, or fit for the journal.
The Editor-in-Chief will reach a final decision based on these reports, consulting with members of the Editorial Board when necessary. The Editor’s decision is final.
